Earlier this week I shared that I had made a fully reversible Made for Mermaids Mama Bridgette Bikini top make for #pheeswimweek2018 but I didn’t show you the back because… I hacked it!
Since I needed to have two different back pieces to make the entire thing reversible and I didn’t want to have the bulk of all of the seaming pressed together I did a bit of pattern altering to smush the four racer back pieces into just one! It was a pretty simple endeavor but the finished look is so smooth and polished that if you arent using galloon lace for your Bridgette it is totally worth the extra few minutes to make a one piece back.
So here is how you do it!
Step one: mark a 3/8 seam allowance on the inner and lower sides of the top racer back piece and a 3/8 seam allowance on the inner and upper sides of the bottom racer back piece.
Step two: flip the lower racer back piece over so the wrong side is facing you and align the 3/8 inch seam of the top racer back piece with the top of the bottom racer back piece. Tape or glue in place.
Step three: cut along the inner 3/8 seam allowance line you drew from the top of the upper racer back piece to the bottom of the lower racer back piece and add a “place on fold” mark to the new, long inner side of your one piece racer back pattern piece.
It is really as simple as that! Don’t forget to check back Thursday when I will be talking you through the full process of how to make your own *fully reversible* Mama Bridgette bikini top! Happy Sewing!
